Why won’t my test email send?

Open Emails

The editor opens from any draft.

Short answer

The Send test dialog needs at least one valid address, up to twenty per test, and thirty test emails an hour across your workspace. Jounce also skips anyone who asked not to hear from you or can’t receive mail, and the dialog says what stopped it.

The dialog tells you what stopped it, and your email is untouched either way. Match the message below to the fix.

In an email with no blocks yet, Send test is dimmed. Add a block and it wakes.

The messages

Jounce says The fix
Add at least one recipient. Type an address under Recipients, or pick a subscriber, then send
Fix the addresses in red, then send. An address in red isn’t a valid email address. Remove it or correct it
“…” is not a valid email address. Correct the address it names, then send. Jounce can’t send a test to an address with a quote mark in it
Test sends are limited to 20 recipients. Send to twenty at most per test
Your workspace can send up to 30 test emails an hour… Thirty test emails an hour across your workspace, each recipient counted, even one Jounce skipped. Wait a little, then send again
Jounce skipped … so the test didn’t go out. Jounce never emails anyone who asked not to hear from you or can’t receive mail, even for a test. Send the test to a different address
Verify your email address first — Jounce sent you a link. The test didn’t go out. You haven’t verified the email address you signed up with. Open the email called Verify your email for Jounce and select Verify email, then send the test again. See Verify your email address
…Until you verify your email address, a test goes to people in this workspace who have verified theirs… The message names an address that isn’t one of them. Verify your own email address, and a test can go to any address. Until then, send the test to someone in your workspace who has verified theirs. See Verify your email address
…While your list is warming up, a test goes to the people in this workspace… The message names an address outside your workspace. Send the test to yourself, or to someone in your workspace who has verified their address. A test can go to any address once your workspace’s daily limit lifts. See Why can’t I email my whole list yet?
Your email has a block with a missing design, so the test didn’t go out… This page was open before Jounce stopped offering one of the email’s designs. Reload it, and the block reads This block can’t be shown. Delete that block, then send the test again. See Why does a block say it can’t be shown?
One picture in your photo cover didn’t load from its web address, so the test didn’t go out… The design it names goes out as a picture, and the pictures it counts don’t load from their web addresses. Select each one, then Replace in its panel. Upload a picture from your computer or pick one from Your images, then send the test again. See The image picker
Your email has too many designs that go out as pictures, so the test didn’t go out… One email can send only so many designs as pictures, and each video on its own is one. The message says how many to delete. In the editor, select the line for it under Before you send, and Jounce selects the first of them. Delete that many, then send the test again
That test didn’t send. Try again — your email’s untouched. Something on Jounce’s side. Try again in a minute

A test that sent, with notes

In every email you create, the dialog stays open only when it has something to tell you. A note about the test names anyone Jounce skipped or couldn’t reach, a picture that didn’t load, or a photo sent with a basic label.

If the email still has something to fix, one line says how many, as in Two things still need fixing before the real send. See what they are closes the dialog and points at Before you send, where each one is listed.

In the earlier editor, the dialog stays open with a short list under Test sent to your address. The test itself went out. Some notes name what to fix before the real send. The rest are advice, or say who got the test.

Fix these before you send to your audience

These notes come first in the list. Each one mentions your audience, as in before you send to your audience. Jounce won’t send the email to your audience until you fix them. Each note says how. They name:

  • A button or link that points somewhere that isn’t a real web address.
  • An empty picture, as in Your email has an empty picture.
  • A personalization tag or a link written into a design that goes out as a picture.
  • This draft has almost no live text. The words inside a design that goes out as a picture don’t count.
  • No postal address on file. See Add your mailing address.
  • Sample text, a testimonial with sample or made-up words, a missing number, or a countdown with no end time. See What an AI draft leaves to you.

Fix what they name, and send another test if you like. The send steps check a few more things before the email goes. See What Jounce checks before it sends.

Advice

The other notes about your email are advice. They’re worth a look, but the email can go to your audience without the fix. For example, Most of this email is images, There’s almost no text in this email, or links that start with http://.

On an email that opens in the earlier editor, Your email has an empty image is advice too. The sent email leaves that image out.

Who got the test

The list can also name an address Jounce skipped, or one it couldn’t send the test to. The test went to everyone else. The confirmation says how many, as in Test sent to 1 of 2 recipients.

Jounce never emails anyone who asked not to hear from you or can’t receive mail, even for a test. Those are the addresses it skips.

Jounce skipped your own address

Most often, you used the unsubscribe link in an earlier test. That link works like the one in your emails. So Jounce unsubscribed that address from your workspace. From then on, it skips the address in tests and in your emails.

To get it back, fill in one of your own forms with that address. Then click the link in the confirmation email Jounce sends you. See Subscriber statuses. Or send the test to a different address you own.

Jounce couldn’t send the test to an address

The list says Jounce couldn’t send the test to … and names the address. The test went to everyone else.

Try again in a moment. Select Done, then open Send test. Jounce keeps that address under Recipients, so you don’t retype it. The addresses that got the test are there too. They get it again unless you remove them.

If it keeps failing, check the address for a typo or use a different one.

The test didn’t arrive

Check the spam folder first. The subject starts with [Test]. If it isn’t there a few minutes later, send the test again to a different address you own.
