Why doesn’t my video play in the email?

Open Emails

The editor opens from any draft.

Short answer

Email can’t play video, so Jounce sends the video’s picture with a play button, and a tap opens it on YouTube or Vimeo. If a tap opens nothing, the picture has no link: select it and paste your video’s address under Link.

Nothing is wrong with your email. No mail app plays a video inside a message. So every email tool sends a video the same way: its picture, a play button, and a link. Your reader taps it and the video opens on YouTube or Vimeo in their browser. That’s the design, and it works in every inbox.

This is for every email you create. For an email that opens in the earlier editor, see the last section. If the video looks wrong, it’s one of these.

A tap on the picture opens nothing

A video layout is a picture with a drawn play button. A tap opens the picture’s own link, or the link on the button under it when the picture has none.

The Review step may say Your video frame has a play button in the picture, but nothing opens when someone taps it. In the editor, select the picture and add a link. Paste your video’s address under Link. See Link a video layout to your video.

Before you send lists it too, under Worth a look, as One play button has no link. The email can still go.

The email can’t be sent

A video on its own, from the Videos tile, has no button under it. Until its picture has a link, the email can’t be sent, and Before you send reads One link still needs a destination. See Add a video on its own.

In an email that opens in the earlier editor

The block reads Your video goes here

The block has no link Jounce recognizes. Under Video URL in the panel, a bad link shows Paste a YouTube or Vimeo link. Open the video on YouTube or Vimeo, copy the link from the address bar, and paste that. A channel page or a search result isn’t a video link.

A Vimeo link is the exception. The editor can’t fetch Vimeo’s picture, so the editor keeps the placeholder even when the link is right. Jounce fetches the picture when you send. To check the link, open Preview, or paste it into a browser.

The Review step says your video points somewhere that isn’t a real web address

The link in the block isn’t a YouTube or Vimeo video, and the email won’t send until it is. Go back to the editor, select the video, and replace the link under Video URL. Your draft is untouched, and the Review step waits.

Vimeo couldn’t supply the video’s picture when the email went out. Rather than send a broken picture, Jounce sent a plain link. The link opens the video. If the video is private or was deleted, Vimeo has no picture to give. A public video usually shows the picture on the next send.
