Why can’t I add a link to this text?

Open Emails

The editor opens from any draft.

Short answer

The words are a heading, a label, a price, or a button’s words, which take no text link, or the address didn’t take. Link the button or the whole block instead, or fix the address the link box names.

Your words are untouched. In every email you create, the toolbar offers Link for body text: a paragraph, an intro, a letter, or body text in a list. One of these is in the way. For an email that opens in the earlier editor, see the last section.

It’s a heading, a label, or a price

Its toolbar has no Link, or it has no toolbar at all. Link the button beside it, or the whole block where the layout offers Block link. See Link a whole block.

It’s a button’s words

They have no toolbar. The button is the link: select the button and put its address under Link in the panel. See The Button block.

The address won’t take

The link box stays open and says why. That link won’t open — use a web address, an email, or a phone number. What you pasted isn’t one of the three, so nothing was linked. Fix the address and press Enter again. See Add a link to text.

Link isn’t greyed, and your link is kept. But the sent email opens the block link wherever a reader clicks in the block. Clear the box under Block link to use your own.

In an email that opens in the earlier editor

There, Link and the paperclip are greyed on the toolbar. The tooltip reads Text links are off — everything in this block opens the block link. A block link makes every click in the block open one address, so a separate link inside it would never open.

Keep the block link if that one address is what you want. Otherwise select Block at the top of the panel and clear the box under Block link. Words that were already linked keep their Link button, so you can remove that link either way.

The words sit on a picture

In a few layouts there, the words are part of the picture, and the toolbar offers only bold, italic, underline, and strikethrough. Jounce sends that picture as one image, so it can’t hold a link. If the layout offers a Links to box for that part, give that part its own address in the panel. Or link the whole block.

A button’s label has no toolbar there either. Its address goes in the box under Link in the panel.
