The confirmation email
Short answer
One email for the whole workspace, written and sent by Jounce in your brand, with the subject Confirm your subscription to your brand’s name. It has your logo, a headline, one line and a Yes, subscribe me button, and it never shows a person’s name.
Every form in the workspace sends the same confirmation email. Jounce writes it and sends it for you, so there’s nothing to set up or edit.
It wears your brand: change your logo, fonts or colors on Settings › Brand, and the next confirmation email follows. Settings › Opt-in setup shows it as Automatic, with an Edit brand button that opens that page. See The Brand page.
What it says
- Your brand logo at the top. No logo? Your brand’s name instead, if you’ve typed one. With neither, the email opens on the headline.
- The headline Confirm your subscription.
- Two lines: You signed up for emails from your brand’s name, then Tap the button below to confirm.
- A button reading Yes, subscribe me, and under it This link works for 7 days.
The name is the Brand name on the Brand page. With none, or one over 40 characters or that looks like a web address, the email says our emails instead.
Until your emails come from your own domain, Jounce also leaves out a name that looks like a well-known company’s, such as PayPal, or one with Jounce in it. Your logo is left out with it.
How it looks
The email sits on one sheet of warm off-white paper, with no grey border around it. Once your brand is saved, the headline and the lines under it use your brand’s fonts, and the button takes your brand’s button color and corners. If that color would be hard to see on the email’s light paper, the button stays dark.
Who it comes from
It comes from the From address your emails already use. Once your domain is authenticated in Settings › Sending, that’s hello@ at your domain. Until then, it’s your business name at send.jouncemail.com. The sender name is your brand’s company name, or your own name if the brand has none.
The subject line is Confirm your subscription to, then your brand’s name. When the email leaves the name out, the subject is Confirm your subscription.
The button
The button holds a link made for that one person. Only their click can confirm them. At a personal inbox such as Gmail, one tap is all it takes. A work or school address presses Confirm subscription on the page that opens. The link works for 7 days. See What subscribers see when they confirm.
It never shows a person’s name
The email names your brand and no person: not the person it goes to, and not you. Anyone can type any address and any name into a form, and the email lands before the owner of that address has said yes. The name they typed stays on their record, and your other emails can show it once they confirm.
When Jounce sends it
- When someone submits a form with the opt-in switch on. It usually goes within moments, or a few minutes later when many are going out across Jounce at once. They show as Unconfirmed while it’s on its way.
- When a rush of signups passes a form’s limit, or many come from one connection, even with the switch off. Those emails go out a little later. See What happens when someone submits.
- Again, when someone Unconfirmed or Unsubscribed fills in a form. That includes someone who unsubscribed before you deleted them. Repeat submissions in a short time don’t send repeat emails.
- When you choose Resend confirmation on their row in Audience. See Resend a confirmation email.
- When you fix the address of someone Unconfirmed. The link goes to the new address. See Change a subscriber’s email address.
When it isn’t sent
Jounce sends confirmation emails only if the workspace owner has verified their email address. Until then, a new signup stays Unconfirmed and gets no email. Verifying later doesn’t send it, so select Resend confirmation for the people waiting. See Verify your email address.
Jounce skips an address that bounced or marked an earlier email as spam, whatever its status says. Every confirmation email also waits 15 minutes after the last one to that address, and stops after five. The count goes with the address and clears a year after the last one, so deleting someone and adding them back doesn’t start it over.
Each workspace also has a daily limit on confirmation emails. And after a sending problem, Jounce can pause them for everyone who uses Jounce. Either way, the person stays Unconfirmed, and a resend tells you why. See Why is someone still Unconfirmed?.
Note The confirmation email has no unsubscribe link, because it lands before the person has confirmed. Its footer reads Didn’t sign up? Ignore this email and you won’t be subscribed., then your postal address if you’ve added one.
