Why is Jounce skipping some people?
Short answer
They asked not to hear from you, or their address can’t receive mail. Jounce counts them out of every send so your emails stay out of spam folders, and the line under the count says how many.
The line under the count reads Jounce will skip a number of people who asked not to hear from you or can’t receive mail. Nothing is wrong with your email. Those people are in the segment you picked, and Jounce leaves them out on purpose.
Who is skipped
- Unsubscribed — they opted out of your emails.
- Complained — they marked an earlier email as spam.
- Bounced — their mailbox rejected an earlier email.
Their status on the Audience page says which. See Subscriber statuses. Sending to them anyway would push your other emails toward spam folders. So there’s no way to override it.
Jounce skips them in a test email too. See Why won’t my test email send?.
Who else is left out of the count
The count can be lower than the segment’s size for reasons the line doesn’t mention.
- Unconfirmed subscribers haven’t clicked their confirmation link yet, so Jounce doesn’t send to them. See Resend a confirmation email.
- Jounce leaves out anyone whose domain it found can’t receive mail, though their status still reads Subscribed. The domain is the part of their address after the @. When someone joins and their domain looks like it can’t, Jounce leaves them out while it makes sure.
- Someone in two of the segments you picked is counted once.
- People you put in the Won’t receive box on the Recipients step are removed.
- An address you type under People gets no email if it belonged to someone you deleted.
If someone with a Subscribed status still didn’t get the email, see Why didn’t someone get my email?.
