The Title block

Open Emails

The editor opens from any draft.

Short answer

In every email you create, a heading is part of a layout: for one on its own, add the Text layout and switch on Heading. In the earlier editor, a Title block is a heading on one line with its own font settings.

In every email you create, there’s no Title block. Most layouts open with a heading of their own. For a heading on its own, add the Text layout from the tray’s Text tile, then switch on Heading under Elements in its panel. See The Text block.

For an email that opens in the earlier editor, see the last section.

Typing a heading

Click the heading, then click again to type. Enter finishes typing: a heading stays on one line, and long headings wrap on their own. See Edit text in your email.

Its look

The heading takes the Heading font saved on your Brand page, and the layout sets its size. Select it and the panel offers Color. See Choose your brand fonts.

Formatting a heading

Select words in a heading and the toolbar offers bold, italic, underline, and strikethrough. It offers no lists and no link. See The text formatting toolbar.

In an email that opens in the earlier editor

There, a Title block is a heading. Layouts open with one, and the Title tile in the block tray adds one on its own. Point at one and a small label reads Edit heading. An empty one reads Add a title until you type.

A heading stays on one line: Enter doesn’t start a second one. Long headings wrap on their own. Select the heading and the panel reads Block › Title.

Type

  • Font lists two groups. Email-safe fonts travel as text. Exact look fonts are sent as an image of the heading, and each is tagged sent as image in the list. Pick one and a line under the row says Sent as an image so this font stays exact. See Email-safe and exact-look fonts.
  • Weight, Size, and Case work as they do on a paragraph.

Note A heading that carries a subscriber’s name can’t use an exact-look font. The list greys those fonts out and says why: the name fills in for each reader as live text, real words rather than a picture. See Personalize with a subscriber’s name.

Appearance

Color and Align, as on a paragraph.

Advanced

  • Line height sets the space between wrapped lines, as a percentage of the type size.
  • Letter spacing adds space between letters, in pixels.

Formatting

Select words in a heading there and the toolbar offers bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, a link, a PDF attachment, and Personalize. It offers no lists: a heading isn’t a list.
