Step 4 of 5

Send a test email

Open Emails

The editor opens from any draft.

Short answer

In the editor select Send test. Your own address is under Recipients the first time, so select Send test and it lands in your inbox with [Test] in front of the subject.

When you’re done, the email is in your own inbox. Read it on your phone and in your mail app before anyone else sees it.

If you signed up with an email and a password, verify your email address first. Until you do, a test goes only to people in your workspace who have verified theirs. See Verify your email address.

  1. Open the email from your Emails page. The editor opens.
  2. Select Send test in the toolbar at the top. A dialog called Send test opens.
  3. From shows your From name and the address the test comes from. Until your own domain is authenticated, the address ends in send.jouncemail.com. The line under it says where a reply goes. Subject is your subject line with [Test] in front, or the email’s name if you haven’t written a subject yet. Change it if you like.
  4. Recipients holds your own address the first time, once that address is verified. While your list is warming up, it offers only the people in your workspace who have verified theirs. Once your daily limit lifts, type any address to add it, or start typing a name and pick a subscriber. Jounce remembers the addresses your last test went to.
  5. Select Send test. Jounce confirms with Test sent to your address. In every email you create, the button turns into Sent with a check, and the dialog closes.

Where a reply goes

The line under From names the address a reply to this email reaches: the workspace owner’s sign-in email, with or without your own domain. It reads Replies go to your address when you are the owner, and Replies go to the workspace owner when you aren’t. See The address your emails come from.

Until your domain is authenticated, one more line follows: Send from your own domain instead of the shared Jounce address. Select Set up your domain to open your sending settings. If the owner signed up with an address at their own domain, the line names that domain, and the link reads Authenticate domain.

If Recipients is empty the first time, your address isn’t verified yet. Verify it first. See Verify your email.

What Jounce checks

If Jounce spots something worth fixing as it sends the test, the dialog stays open and lists it under the confirmation. Fix it in the editor and send another test.

Jounce never emails anyone who asked not to hear from you or can’t receive mail, even for a test. When it skips someone, the dialog says so.

The dialog also names an address Jounce couldn’t send the test to. See Why won’t my test email send? for what to do.

If the test doesn’t go out, Jounce says That test didn’t send. Try again — your email’s untouched.
