Why is the send button off?
Short answer
It’s usually the count: the button needs a fresh count above zero, with no address or segment in red. The step you’re on names what to fix.
The button turns on only when Jounce can keep its promise. That means a real number of people, counted a moment ago, every one able to receive mail. Nothing is lost while it’s off. Your email is saved in the editor, and each step says what it’s waiting for.
On the Recipients step
- No recipients yet. Pick a segment or add someone.
- Counting… Jounce is asking the server for the number. Give it a moment.
- Couldn’t count your recipients. Your work isn’t affected. The count didn’t come back. Select Try again to ask for the number again; the button never guesses one.
- Jounce can’t count your recipients while this email leaves out a deleted segment. A segment in the Won’t receive box was deleted, and its label is red. Remove it, then choose who to leave out instead. See Exclude people or segments.
- The count is above zero but Continue is still off. Look for a red label in Segments, People, or the Won’t receive box. Rest on it to read why, then correct the address or remove it. The message under the field reads isn’t a real address. Fix it or remove it to continue. For a deleted segment under Segments, it reads was deleted. Remove it to continue.
- A note saying a number of addresses are new to your list. You pasted more new addresses than the field takes. Select Import these addresses to move them through the import screen, which brings them back as a segment.
- A note that starts Jounce is adding, and a spinner on Continue. A long import is still filling a segment you picked. Continue works once the import is in.
- A note above Continue that gives your daily limit, such as To warm up your list, start by sending an email to 500 people. The audience is bigger than it. Choose a smaller audience, or select Request an earlier increase at the end of the note to ask Jounce to lift it sooner. See Why can’t I email my whole list yet? If the count comes in over the limit after you’ve moved on, Jounce takes you back. It says This audience is over your daily limit, so you’re back on Recipients.
On the Subject step
Continue is never off here. Select it, and Jounce says what’s left and puts your cursor there: an empty Subject (Add a subject line.), an empty subject B with a test on. With a test on and fewer than two recipients, a note under the two subject lines says so.
On the Review step
- A block in the email can’t be shown because its design is missing, and a note says so. Delete that block in the editor, then come back. See Why does a block say it can’t be shown?.
- A link in the email isn’t a real web address, and a note names it. Fix it in the editor, then come back.
- A personalization tag or a link sits inside a design that goes out as one picture, the same for everyone. So neither can work. The note says which. In the editor, move the tag into text outside the picture, or put the link on the design’s button. Then come back.
- The email has too many designs that go out as pictures, and a note says how many to delete. In the editor, select the line for it under Before you send, and Jounce selects the first of them. Delete that many, then come back.
- The email still has something Jounce left open. That’s sample text, or a testimonial with sample or made-up words. Or it’s a missing number, an empty picture, or a countdown with no end time. The placeholder words in an item you add to a list count as sample text. A note names it. Fix it in the editor, then come back. See What an AI draft leaves to you.
- The email has almost no live text, and a note says so. The words inside a design that goes out as a picture don’t count. In the editor, select its line under Before you send, such as The email still needs some text. Jounce opens the tray to add a text block, or selects a block whose words are switched off. Then come back.
- Schedule is chosen and the time is refused. Read the message under the time and pick a later moment.
- The count went to zero after you excluded people. Select Edit on the To row and widen the audience.
If the button reads Save and hand off
That’s your role, not a fault. See Hand off an email for someone else to send.
