Why can’t I email my whole list yet?
Short answer
Jounce warms up a new workspace’s list in steps, from 500 people a day to no limit, each about a day after a clean send. Until then, choose a smaller audience, or select Request an earlier increase on the Recipients step.
Jounce warms up every new workspace’s list. It starts with a daily limit, and the limit goes up in steps as your emails land cleanly, until it lifts for good. Nothing is lost on the way: your email and audience are saved, and no one is emailed until the send fits.
The limit counts the people your emails reach in any 24 hours, from any address, your own domain included. Emails from your automations count too. Test emails and confirmation emails don’t.
The steps to no limit
| Step | You can email | To reach the next step |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 500 people a day | One email to 500 people |
| 2 | 1,000 a day | One email to 1,000 people |
| 3 | 2,000 a day | One email to 2,000 people |
| 4 | 4,000 a day | One email to 4,000 people |
| 5 | 8,000 a day | One email to 5,000 people or more |
| Done | No daily limit |
Each step opens about a day after that email goes out, if it’s a clean send. A clean send is one where few emails bounce and almost no one marks it as spam.
Your next limit is twice the people your biggest clean email reached, so a second email to the same people doesn’t raise it. A smaller email still helps: a clean email to 600 people raises a limit of 500 to 1,200.
People at the big email providers count in full. That means Gmail, Outlook and Hotmail, Yahoo, AOL and iCloud, and their versions in other countries. It also means big internet and national providers, such as Comcast, BT, GMX and Orange.
Only part of a list at one company’s addresses counts, so a list mostly at work addresses climbs slowly. Request an earlier increase helps there.
What the send steps say
When your audience is bigger than your daily limit, a blue note appears above Continue on the Recipients step. Continue stays off until the audience fits. The note names your step and your limit:
- To warm up your list, start by sending an email to 500 people. About a day after a clean send, your limit goes up.
- Once you’ve sent: Your list is warming up: you can send to 1,000 people a day. About a day after a clean send to 1,000, it goes up.
- On the last step: Last step to warm up your list: send an email to 8,000 people. About a day after a clean send, your limit lifts.
To go on, choose a smaller audience. The note ends with two links: See the steps opens this article in a new tab, and Request an earlier increase asks Jounce to lift your limit sooner.
Sometimes the audience fits your limit, but not the room left after the last 24 hours of sends. Then the step says nothing, and you can still send it. The email waits and goes out by itself once there’s room.
The Review step speaks up only when that wait would make the email more than a day late. Then a line under the timing says when the email can go out, such as tomorrow at about 2:15 PM. It adds but that’s more than a day late, so it waits for your OK instead.
An email that waits for your OK has the label Needs your OK. See Email statuses.
A count can come in over your limit after you’ve moved on. Then Jounce takes you back: This audience is over your daily limit, so you’re back on Recipients.
Choose a smaller audience
On Recipients, pick a smaller segment, or leave some people out. The count at the top says how many the send reaches. See Choose who gets your email and Exclude people or segments.
Request an earlier increase
At the end of the note, select Request an earlier increase. Your request goes to a person at Jounce, who can lift your limit sooner than the steps would. The note then says Your request has been sent in place of the link.
You’ll hear back by email, at the address you sign in with. If Jounce lifts your limit, the email says so, and the note is gone the next time you open the send steps. If it isn’t lifted within about four hours, the email says your workspace keeps its automatic warm-up, with a link to this article.
Only an Admin or a Manager can ask, and only from a verified email address. If yours isn’t verified, the Verify your email to send window opens first, as it does when you send. Once you’ve verified, select Request an earlier increase again.
The note can also say:
- Ask an admin or manager to request an earlier increase. It shows in place of the link for an Editor.
- Your request didn’t go through. Try again. Select Request an earlier increase again.
- Jounce can’t take another request today. Try again tomorrow. Jounce takes only so many requests a day.
Come back within a day of asking, and the note still says Your request has been sent, with no link. After a day, the link is back if your limit is still in place, so you can ask again.
While an email waits
Its label on your Emails page reads Sending later. Its page says While your list is warming up, you can email a limited number of people a day. This email goes out by itself once there’s room; if it’s more than a day late by then, it waits for your OK instead.
There’s nothing to do. To stop it, open its menu on the Emails page and choose Cancel sending.
An automation email the limit has no room for waits at its Send email step. It goes out by itself once there’s room.
If a send fails over the limit
A send can still reach Jounce bigger than your limit, such as one scheduled before its segment grew. Then no one is emailed. Its page gives your limit and the audience’s size, then says No one was emailed, and your email is saved. Choose a smaller audience, or request an earlier increase.
Edit audience opens the send steps at Recipients, where the note offers Request an earlier increase. See Why did my send fail?
When bounces or spam reports run high
While the amber banner says Your sending is at risk, your limit is back where it started. The note then says Too many recent emails bounced or were marked as spam, so your limit is 500 people a day until that clears. It offers no request then.
If the banner or a pause is still on four hours after you asked, your request gets no email.
Emails sent before that banner appeared never count toward a bigger limit, even after it goes away. See Why does it say Your sending is at risk?
While sending is paused, the note says only Sending is paused.
After a pause for bounces or spam complaints, your list warms up again from the first step.
