Glossary
Every word Jounce uses, one line each. Follow a word for the article that explains it.
A
- A/B test
- A send where two subject lines each go to part of your list, and the more-clicked one goes to everyone else 24 hours later.
- Action step
- A step that adds the subscriber to a segment or removes them from one, then moves them on at once.
- Activity list
- A subscriber’s history with you, newest first: how they joined, each email they clicked, any bounce, spam complaint, unsubscribe, and address change.
- API key
- A code that lets software you or a developer write read your audience; a Full access key can change it too, and a Read-only key can change nothing.
- Authenticated
- The sending domain badge that means your records checked out, so your emails come from your own domain.
- Automation
- A series of steps Jounce walks each subscriber through on their own clock, starting the moment its trigger happens.
- Automation statuses
- Draft, Live, Paused, or the rare Ready: one word on every automation that says whether it’s running.
B
- Block
- One piece of an email, such as a title, a paragraph, an image, or a button, that you add, move, and style on its own.
- Bounce
- A mailbox refusing your email; when it refuses for good, Jounce marks the person Bounced and stops sending to them.
- Brand
- The logo, fonts, and colors on the Brand page, saved together as your brand kit, which every email you create wears.
- Brand profile
- A written description of your brand on the Brand page: what you do, who it’s for, and how you sound.
C
- Click rate
- The share of delivered emails whose reader clicked a link, counting each person once.
- Complaint
- A reader marking your email as spam; Jounce marks them Complained, which can’t be lifted, and never emails them again.
- Condition step
- A step that sends each subscriber down Yes or No, by whether they opened or clicked the email above it or match filters.
- Confirmation email
- The one email Jounce sends to someone who fills in a form with opt-in on, with a button that makes them Subscribed.
- Connected apps
- The list on the Integrations page of every app that has connected, with a Disconnect button beside each.
- Consent record
- The proof Jounce keeps that a person agreed to hear from you: what they saw, what they answered, and when.
- Countdown
- A timer block Jounce sends as a picture drawn fresh each time the email is opened, so it always shows the true time left.
- Custom field
- Any detail you keep about a subscriber beyond their name and address, such as a company or a birthday.
- Cutout
- A photo with its background removed, so its product or person stands on a shade of your brand color in an offer poster.
D
- Dead address
- A mailbox that refused mail for good from any sender on Jounce; Jounce skips it in every send.
- Delivered
- Sent minus bounces: the emails that reached a mailbox.
- Double opt-in
- With opt-in on, a new subscriber is Unconfirmed until they click the link in a confirmation email.
E
- Earlier editor
- The editor that opens an email made in it, with the email’s name in its top bar; every email you create opens in the other editor.
- Email statuses
- One label on every email that says where its send stands: not sent yet, waiting to go, going out, or finished.
- Email-safe font
- A font that travels as text in every inbox; an exact-look font goes out as an image of the heading instead.
- Embed code
- The lines of code from the Share dialog that put a pop-up or inline form on your website.
- Engagement presets
- Three ready-made filters that start from Subscribed and sort people by their last open or click.

- Export
- A CSV download of the subscribers you tick, with their first name, last name, email, segments, consent date, method, location, and time zone.
F
- Favorites
- Blocks you saved with the star, kept in the block tray to add to another email.
- Filter
- A rule that narrows your subscriber list to the people who match, alone or in groups.
- Folder
- A name you give emails or forms so you can look at one group of them at a time.
- Form
- A pop-up, inline form, full page, or link-in-bio page that adds the people who fill it in to your audience.
- Free photos

- From address
- The name and address subscribers see in the From line: one on Jounce’s own sending domain until you authenticate yours, then hello@ at your domain.

H
I
- Inline form
- A form that sits in the flow of a page on your website, placed with its embed code.
- Insights
- One automation’s results: entered, in it now, finished, emails sent, open rate, click rate, and a table of every email step.
J
- Jo
- Jounce’s AI support assistant behind the Help button: it answers questions about Jounce with a help article, and gives email-marketing advice.
- Jounce AI
- The chat folded on the left edge of the email and form editors: it reads your work, recommends changes, and makes them.

- Link preview
- The line that shows under your page’s name when someone shares its link, written in the editor’s Settings.
- Link-in-bio page

- Send email step
- A step that sends one email to each subscriber who reaches it.

- Sending banner
- The amber or red strip at the top of the app: amber means your sending is at risk, red means Jounce paused it.
- Sending domain
- Your own domain, authenticated with three records, so emails come from hello@ at your domain instead of Jounce’s.
- Sending pause
- Jounce holding your campaign and automation sends after too many bounces or spam complaints, until a person at Jounce resumes them.
- Shared inbox
- An address whose part before the @ is a word teams use for a shared mailbox, such as info@ or sales@; Jounce labels it and still sends to it.
