Remove the background from a photo
Short answer
Select the photo in an Offer poster and pick Cutout under Picture in the settings panel. Jounce removes the photo’s background, so your product or person stands on a shade of your brand color.
When you’re done, your photo shows only its subject, such as a product or a person, on a shade of your brand color. Jounce keeps the original, so one pick brings it back.
Cutout works in the layout drawn for it, the Offer poster: your photo above a big number, on your brand color. A photo in any other layout shows as it is.
- If your email has no offer poster, add one. Select a +, pick the Offers tile, and choose the card with a photo above a big number. See Add a block.
- Select the poster’s photo. The settings panel shows its settings.
- Under Appearance, find Picture. It offers Photo and Cutout, with Photo picked.
- Pick Cutout. The line under it reads Removing the background.
- In a few seconds, the photo in your email shows only its subject, and the line goes.
Jounce starts on the photo when you select it, so it’s often ready the moment you pick. If it takes longer than usual, the line reads Taking longer than usual — still working.
Bring the original back
Pick Photo, and the original is back at once. Undo takes the cutout back in one step too. Replace the photo, and the one you pick arrives as it is.
Swap the block to a similar layout, and the original moves into it. Swap back, and the cutout returns. See Swap a layout.
With Jounce AI
Select the poster’s photo and open Jounce AI. Pick Remove the background under the conversation, or ask in your own words. On a layout that can’t show a cutout, Jounce offers to swap to one that can, or to add an offer poster with your photo.
Which photos work
Cutout works on a still photo in JPEG, PNG, or WebP: one you uploaded, one from Free photos, or a sample photo Jounce put in. One product or one person, clear of clutter, works best. A GIF, a logo, and a video have no Picture row.
If it doesn’t work
Your photo stays as it was, Picture goes back to Photo, and the line under it says why:
- Jounce couldn’t tell what to keep in this photo: try a photo of one product or one person.
- You’ve removed a lot of backgrounds this hour, or today: try again in a few minutes, or tomorrow.
- Background removal isn’t available right now, is busy today, or is paused until a date: Jounce has paused it for everyone. Try again later.
- That didn’t work: pick Cutout to try again.
If you signed up with an email and a password, Cutout works once your email is verified. See Verify your email.
In the sent email
Your photo and the big number go out as one picture, so the cutout looks the same in every email app that shows pictures.
