What a new email starts with

Short answer

An email from a template is your own copy of it, with its photos, subject line, and preview text; one from scratch starts empty. Both wear your brand kit, and Jounce adds your mailing address and the unsubscribe line at the bottom.

Selecting a template makes a copy that belongs to you. Edit anything in it, and the template in the gallery stays as it was. An email from scratch starts empty instead.

What comes along

  • The name. The email takes the template’s name, and its card on the Emails page shows that name until you rename it. An email from scratch is listed as Untitled draft. See Rename an email.
  • The subject line and preview text. A template brings a subject line and the short line inboxes show after it. Change both on the send steps. An email from scratch has neither, so you write them there.
  • The design. The template’s sections, ready to edit.
  • The photos. The template’s photos stay in place. Keep them, or swap in your own from the image picker. An email from scratch has no photos yet.
  • Your mailing address. The footer prints the address on your Address settings page. See Add your mailing address.
  • The unsubscribe line. Every email carries it, and it can’t be removed.

Jounce adds the address and the unsubscribe line itself, at the bottom of every email. In an email from scratch, they show under the first block you add. See What Jounce adds to the bottom of every email.

Your brand

Every new email wears your brand kit, the one on your Brand page: its logo, colors, fonts, and shape. That goes for an email from a template, with AI, or from scratch. A change you save there reaches your drafts too, but never an email you’ve already scheduled.

Your logo starts at the size you last picked for it. If your brand color is dark and your logo shows on it, the header starts on a band of your brand color, so a white logo stays visible. See The Logo block.

With no logo in your kit, the email follows your choice on the Brand page. It shows your brand name in the logo’s place, or it’s made without the template’s logo row. Until you choose, the logo spot reads Your logo in the editor and isn’t sent. See Send emails without a logo.

You can also open the kit from the email, with Brand kit in the editor’s settings panel. See Apply your brand to new emails.

If a new email arrives without your brand, see Why doesn’t my new email use my brand?

What’s left to you

A template can’t know your links or your name. So an email made from one opens with Before you send in the settings panel. It lists what the email still needs, such as One button still needs a link. An email from scratch gets the same list as you add blocks. See What an AI draft leaves to you.

Note If Jounce says Couldn’t create the email. Try again., nothing was made. Select the template, or Start from scratch, again.
