Add a link to text
Short answer
Select the words, choose Link on the toolbar, paste the address, and press Enter. The paperclip beside it links the words to a PDF you upload instead.
When you’re done, the words you selected open the address you gave them, in every inbox.
These steps are for every email you create. For an email that opens in the earlier editor, see the last section.
- Click into the paragraph, then drag across the words that should carry the link. The toolbar appears above them.
- Choose Link, or press ⌘K (Ctrl+K). A small box opens under the toolbar, reading https:// — where a click goes.
- Paste or type the address.
- Press Enter. The box closes and the words are linked.
Esc or a click elsewhere closes the box without linking anything.
The toolbar offers Link for body text: a paragraph, an intro, a letter, or body text in a list. A heading or a label takes no link; link a button instead.
What you can paste
| You paste | A click |
|---|---|
example.com/page |
Opens the page |
hello@example.com |
Opens the reader’s mail app |
+1 555 123 4567 |
Dials from the reader’s phone |
Jounce adds the part that makes it open, so you can paste a bare domain, an email, or a number as it is. A short youtu.be link changes to the full youtube.com address, which opens the same video.
Change or remove a link
Click into the linked words and choose Link again. The box opens with the address in it: change it and press Enter, or choose Remove link (the ×) to unlink the words.
Link to a PDF you upload
Select the words, then choose the paperclip, Attach a file, and pick a PDF under 10 MB. Jounce uploads it and links the words to it. Readers get a link, not an attachment. That keeps the email light. With nothing selected, the file’s name becomes the linked words.
When the link won’t take
The box stays open after Enter, and Jounce says why: That link won’t open — use a web address, an email, or a phone number. What you typed isn’t one of the three, so nothing was linked. Fix it and press Enter again.
An address that starts with http:// links fine, with a note under the
box. Some readers’ browsers ask before opening an unencrypted page, so
some clicks stop there. Use the https:// address when the site has one.
Make the click do something
The link box has no lightning button: a link on words takes no link actions. To have a click change the reader’s segments or set a custom field, link a button or the whole block. See Link actions.
Note A link inside a block that carries a block link is kept, but the sent email opens the block link instead. See Link a whole block.
In an email that opens in the earlier editor
There, the link box has a lightning button beside Remove link, and the toolbar offers Link in a heading too.

Once the address is in, the lightning button opens Link actions for those words. A click can add the reader to a segment, take them out of one, or set a custom field.
Next step
A link that stands out on its own: The Button block.
