Edit text in your email

Open Emails

The editor opens from any draft.

Short answer

Click the words once to select them and again to place the cursor. Type as you would anywhere; select words to format them with the toolbar that appears above them.

When you’re done, the words in the email are the words your subscribers read, formatted the way you left them.

These steps are for every email you create. For an email that opens in the earlier editor, see the last section.

  1. Click the words. An outline marks them, and the panel shows their settings. Nothing is editable yet.
  2. Click the words again. The cursor appears where you clicked.
  3. Type. In a paragraph, such as the Text layout’s, Enter starts a new paragraph. In a heading or a button, Enter finishes typing.
  4. To format, drag across some words. A small toolbar appears above them. What it offers depends on the words. See The text formatting toolbar.
  5. Press Esc to step out. The first Esc leaves the words; the second selects the whole block; the third clears the selection.

Jounce saves as you type. See How the editor saves your work.

Lists

In a list of words, such as steps or a checklist, Enter starts the next item, up to the most the design holds. A list with photos, such as products, grows with + in the panel instead.

Fonts, sizes, and colors

The font comes from your Brand page, and the layout sets the size and the alignment. The panel offers Color for the words, plus Weight for body text, prices, and small print. See The Text block.

Pasting

In body text, pasted words keep their bold, italic, and links. A pasted web address becomes a link on its own.

In an email that opens in the earlier editor

There, the same two clicks work. The first click also shows a small label, Edit text, and the second places the cursor.

  • Enter starts a paragraph in a Text block. In a heading, Enter does nothing: a heading stays on one line.
  • Font, size, and color are settings of the whole block, in the panel on the right: Font, Weight, Size, Case, Color, and Align.
  • Pasted text keeps its bold, italic, and links. A pasted web address becomes a link on its own.

Note In a few layouts there, the words sit on the picture itself. Those take bold, italic, underline, and strikethrough, and nothing else, because Jounce sends the whole picture as one image.

Next step

Then Add a link to text, or Personalize with a subscriber’s name.
