Email statuses
Short answer
Every email wears one status label, and it says where the send stands: not sent yet, waiting to go, going out, or finished. The same status shows on the card, in the list, in the Status menu, and on the calendar.
A status is a fact about the send, not a judgment about the email. The same status shows everywhere the email appears. So the card, the list row, the Status menu, and the calendar always agree.
The statuses
| Label | What it means |
|---|---|
| Draft | Not sent or scheduled. Selecting the card opens the editor. |
| Scheduled | Set to go out at a time you picked. The card opens its schedule, and the menu offers Cancel sending. |
| A/B testing | Two subject lines are out to a test group, and Jounce is waiting to see which one wins. |
| Sending | Going out to your list. The card’s line reads Sending with no date until it finishes. |
| Sending winner | The winning subject line is going to everyone who wasn’t in the test group. |
| Sent | Finished. The card opens the results. |
| Partly sent | Some of your list got it and some didn’t. The results page says what happened and, where it can, offers a way to finish. |
| Sending paused | Sending is paused on this workspace, and this email is waiting behind the pause. Nothing has gone out, unless it’s an A/B test: then the test group already has it. |
| Sending later | Your list is warming up, and its daily limit has no room for this email yet. It goes out by itself once there’s room. More than a day late by then, it waits for your OK instead. See Why can’t I email my whole list yet? |
| Won’t send | Jounce is holding this send, and it won’t go out on its own. The results page says why and how to send it again. |
| Waiting on you | The person who scheduled it hasn’t verified their account email yet. Once they do, it goes out on its own within a few minutes. More than a day past its time, the label reads Needs your OK instead, or On hold on an A/B test. |
| Needs your OK | Held more than a day past its time, so it waits for you. Its results page offers Send now and Reschedule. |
| On hold | An A/B test’s winner round is more than a day past its time, so Jounce won’t send it on its own. Write to hello@jounce.com to send the rest. |
| Won’t finish | An A/B test’s winner round, the send to the rest of your list, stopped. The test sends went out; the results page explains what to do. |
| Canceled | You stopped it. The results page says whether anything went out first. If nothing did, it offers Admins and Managers Review and send. |
| Failed | The send didn’t go out. The results page says why. |
Won’t send, Waiting on you, Needs your OK, and On hold are holds: the send waits for a person. The results page gives the full reason. To open it, select the card.
Two labels change on their own. Jounce closes a Won’t finish email, so its label soon reads Partly sent or Failed. A Won’t send that no one schedules again within a day reads Failed.
Cancel sending in the card’s menu stops any send that hasn’t ended. While the label reads Scheduled, it’s one click. Once the label reads Sending, Sending winner, or A/B testing, it asks first. See Cancel a scheduled or sending email.
The line under the name
The card’s date line follows the status. A draft reads Drafted and how long ago. Change anything and the line reads Edited instead. A scheduled email reads Scheduled for and the date, and one that needs your OK reads Held since and the day it was due.
Sent and partly sent emails read Sent and the date. A failed send reads Send failed and the date, and a canceled one Canceled and the date. Rest your pointer on any date to see the exact time.
A draft that a teammate handed off also reads Ready to send beside its date. It isn’t a status: the label stays Draft until someone sends it. See Hand off an email for someone else to send.
Where a status shows up
- The Status menu above the cards lists each status you have, with a count. Two states that wear the same words share one row.
- The Calendar tab shows every status except Draft, on the day the email went out or is due to. A Won’t send email has no such day, so it isn’t there. See The Calendar tab.
- The results page opens from any card that isn’t a draft and tells the story behind the status.
A draft has no send yet, so it appears on the list and nowhere else.
