Why didn’t a signup show up in my audience?
Short answer
They’re usually there under another status, or they were already a subscriber, so the signup updated them instead of adding a row. Open Audience and search for the address.
Open Audience and search for the email address. That answers most of these on its own. Your form and its settings are untouched either way.
They’re Unconfirmed
If the form asks people to confirm, they arrive Unconfirmed. So does a signup in a rush past the form’s limit, even when the form doesn’t ask. They stay that way until they click the confirmation email. They’re in your audience, but not in the Subscribed list. See Why is someone still Unconfirmed?.
They were already a subscriber
If the address is already in your audience, the signup updates that person instead of adding a new one. It doesn’t add to the form’s Submissions. Their status stays what it was, and so does their name.
A form never changes a name already on your list. So search by the address, not by the name they typed. On their page, the form’s segments sit with the ones they already had. Their other details stay as they were too. The form fills in only a field that was empty.
They were removed or unsubscribed earlier
A signup from an address you deleted brings the person back. If they were Subscribed and your form asks people to confirm, they come back Unconfirmed until they click the confirmation email.
If they unsubscribed before, they come back Unsubscribed. Jounce sends them a confirmation email, and only their click puts them on your list. If their address bounced, or they marked an email as spam, they come back Bounced or Complained. Jounce sends them nothing. See Subscriber statuses.
They used a temporary address
Jounce doesn’t accept a temporary email address. That’s the kind a throwaway-mail site hands out for a few hours. Nobody is added. Instead of your thank-you screen, the page says That email address won’t work here — try a different one under the email box. Ask them for an address they keep.
It looked automated
A submission that looks like it came from a program, not a person, gets the thank-you screen. But it adds nobody. Speed alone isn’t a sign of that: someone whose browser fills the form for them still joins.
They didn’t finish
The thank-you screen appears only after the signup reaches Jounce. A visitor who closed the page while the button was working may not have joined. The same goes for one who saw That didn’t send. One who saw This form is busy right now didn’t join. Ask them to submit again; see Why does my form say That didn’t send?.
