Why is someone still Unconfirmed?
Short answer
Usually their confirmation email is in spam or went to a mistyped address; Resend confirmation on their row sends it again. After a rush of signups it can come a few minutes late, and if nobody gets one, check that the workspace owner verified their email.
Nothing is lost. Open Audience and find the person. If their status label reads Unconfirmed, Jounce has their signup and is waiting for their click. Work down this list.
It may still be on its way
A confirmation email can wait a while before it goes out. That happens in two cases:
- More people signed up through the form in ten minutes than its limit, or many came from one connection, like an event’s shared Wi-Fi. Jounce keeps every one of those signups and sends their emails a little later. A very big rush can take an hour or more.
- A lot of confirmation emails were going out across Jounce at once.
Both usually clear on their own, so there’s nothing to press. But Jounce gives up on an email that waited six hours, that was waiting when sending was paused, or that met your workspace’s daily limit.
It also holds back the email for a signup in a rush that looks automated. Then the person stays Unconfirmed, and you can resend it.
Check that the owner has verified their email
Jounce sends confirmation emails only for a workspace whose owner has verified their email address. The Members page marks the owner with an Owner badge. Until they verify, every new signup stays Unconfirmed and gets no email.
If you’re the owner, open the account menu at the top right and choose Sending. If the Your email card reads Unverified, open the link Jounce emailed you. See Verify your email address.
Verifying doesn’t send the emails Jounce held back. Once the owner is verified, select Resend confirmation for the people waiting. Before that, a resend sends nothing. The owner sees Verify your email to send, and anyone else reads Ask this workspace’s owner to verify their email address. Nothing was sent.
Ask them to check spam
The email comes from your From address, with the subject Confirm your subscription. Mail apps sometimes put a first email from a new sender in spam or promotions. Most people find it there.
Check the address they typed
Search Audience for their name. If the address on their row has a typo, the email went to a mailbox that isn’t theirs. Fix it on their page, and Jounce sends a fresh link to the new address, unless a limit or a pause is holding confirmation emails. See Change a subscriber’s email address.
They can also fill in the form again with the right address; the mistyped one can be deleted.
Resend it
Open the menu at the end of their row and choose Resend confirmation. You’ll see Confirmation sent. See Resend a confirmation email. Only Managers and Admins see the option.
Read what the resend says
- The rest weren’t sent, with a reason. When none went out, it reads Nothing was sent, and your list is unchanged instead. The person stays Unconfirmed, and the message says what to do. A daily limit clears after midnight Pacific time, which may not be midnight where you are. If a lot of confirmations went out at once, or Jounce had a problem, the hold usually clears within a few minutes. Wait, then resend. If Jounce paused confirmation emails for everyone who uses Jounce, only Jounce can lift the pause.
- A message naming what happened instead. They may be on your list already, unsubscribed, bounced, or have marked an earlier email as spam. Or their address changed or isn’t on your list anymore. Nothing was sent. Their label was out of date, so the list refreshes.
- Jounce waits 15 minutes between confirmation emails to one person, or They’ve had five confirmation emails. Nothing was sent, and they’re still Unconfirmed. After five, check the address they typed (above).
Check whether the address is blocked
Jounce never sends a confirmation to an address that bounced or marked an earlier email as spam. That holds even when the person signs up again. A resend tells you so: Their address bounced, so Jounce didn’t email them. There’s nothing to retry. If they want your emails, they need to use another address.
Was opt-in on at all?
If the form’s Ask people to confirm their subscription (opt-in) switch was off, no email was due. They were Subscribed as soon as they submitted.
The exception is a rush past the form’s limit, or many signups from one connection. Those people arrive Unconfirmed, and their email goes out a little later, as above. See Ask people to confirm their subscription.
