How your pop-up behaves on your site
Short answer
The pop-up opens over your page at the moment you chose and closes with its close mark, a click outside it, or the Esc key. Each browser remembers what happened: after a close it waits the days you set, and after a signup it never returns.
A pop-up is your form opened over your own website. The code you pasted into your site decides when the pop-up opens, and it remembers what each visitor did.
The form inside it is the live form, so a design change reaches it without touching the code. A change to when it opens or comes back doesn’t. After a timing change, leave the editor and open the form again, then copy fresh code from Share and paste it into your site. See Choose when a pop-up shows.
When it opens
It opens at the moment set under When it shows in Settings. That’s immediately, after a delay, or once the visitor scrolls part of the way down the page. The code loads the form only when that moment comes. The pop-up opens once the form has loaded, usually a second or two later.
The page behind it dims. The pop-up takes the focus, so the Tab key moves through the form, not the page behind. On a phone it rises from the bottom of the screen and fills the width. See Choose when a pop-up shows.
If the form can’t load, the pop-up stays closed, so the visitor doesn’t see it. That happens while the form is a draft, after it’s deleted, or when the visitor’s connection fails.
How it closes
To close it, a visitor uses the close mark in its corner, clicks the dimmed page around it, or presses Esc. After a signup the thank-you screen stays until they close it the same way. So a code or an instruction on the thank-you screen can be read in full.
What it remembers
The pop-up keeps a note in the visitor’s browser, not in Jounce:
- Until the visitor closes it or signs up, it opens on every page that carries its code, each time the page loads.
- After a close, it waits before showing again in that browser. The wait is set under After it’s dismissed: every visit, a number of days, or never again. To change it, open the form and select Settings. Under After it’s dismissed, pick Every visit, Wait 1 day, Wait 7 days, Wait 30 days, or Never show again. That’s a timing change, so leave the editor, open the form again, then copy fresh code from Share and paste it into your site. See Choose when a pop-up shows.
- After a signup, it never shows again in that browser.
The note lives in that one browser. So if the same person uses another device, or clears their browsing data, they see the pop-up fresh. That’s also why your own pop-up can seem to vanish while you test it; see Test your form.
Views
A pop-up counts a view when it opens, not when your page loads. So a visitor who never sees it isn’t counted. The Views column on the Forms page uses that count.
