Why didn’t I get an email when someone signed up?

Short answer

Usually they haven’t confirmed, one email counted several signups, it went to the workspace owner, the owner’s email isn’t verified, or the switch is off. A busy moment or a daily limit can also hold the email, and the signup is safe in Audience either way.

The person is in your list whatever happened to the email. Open Audience to see them. Then check these, in order.

They haven’t confirmed yet

If the form asks people to confirm, the email comes once they click their confirmation link, not when they submit. In Audience they show as Unconfirmed until then. See Subscriber statuses.

Several signups, one email

Jounce sends at most one email per form an hour. If more people join in that hour, the next email counts them all: 3 new subscribers — Studio notes signup. Nobody is missed.

It went to the workspace owner

The email goes to the workspace owner, whoever made the form. The Members page marks them with an Owner badge. If that’s someone else, ask them to forward it, or ask an Admin to make you the owner.

The owner hasn’t verified their email address

Jounce sends the email only once the workspace owner has verified their email address, the one they sign in with. Until then, Jounce skips the email and doesn’t send it later. The switch still reads on.

If you’re the owner, open the account menu at the top right and choose Sending. The Your email card reads Verified or Unverified. If it’s Unverified, verify it with the link Jounce emailed you, or select Resend link for another. See Verify your email address.

No Your email card? You signed up with Google, so your address is already verified. If you’re not the owner, ask them to check theirs.

If the address on the card is mistyped, the link went to a mailbox you can’t open. Jounce has no setting that changes the address you sign in with. Signing up again with the right address starts a separate, empty workspace, and nothing here moves to it. To ask the team, see Get help from a person at Jounce.

Once the address is verified, the emails start, though not always at once. Someone who joins in the same hour as a skipped email is counted for the next email. So the first email after that can take up to about two hours, or longer when Jounce is busy.

The switch is off

Open the form, select Settings, and look under Notify me. Email me when someone signs up starts on for every form. It stays on until someone switches it off. It also goes off on every form at once when someone selects Turn off these emails in a signup email and confirms.

If it’s off, switch it on in each form you want the emails from. The emails start again with the next person who joins. Jounce sends no email about people who joined while it was off. See Get an email when someone signs up.

The owner’s address stopped receiving

Jounce stops sending to the owner’s address if an email there bounced. It stops too if they marked a signup email, an import email, a daily-limit email or the Sending is paused email as spam. Check that address in Audience if it’s on your list, and make sure it can receive mail.

The form was deleted

A deleted form sends no signup email. Someone can still click their confirmation link after the form is gone. They join your list, and no email goes out.

Your workspace reached its daily limit

Each workspace has a daily limit on signup emails, across all its forms. Once it’s reached, Jounce sends no more until midnight Pacific time, which may not be midnight where you are. The switch still reads on, and there’s nothing to press.

Everyone who joins is in Audience as always, and Jounce keeps counting them. After midnight Pacific time, each form’s next email counts everyone who joined since its last one.

Jounce was busy

Jounce limits how many signup emails go out each minute, across everyone who uses Jounce. When a minute is full, yours waits. You don’t need to do anything.

It goes out with the next person who joins through that form. Once an hour, Jounce also sends the emails still waiting, one at a time. So after a busy hour, yours can arrive an hour or more late. Either way, it counts everyone who joined.
