Why does my form say That didn’t send?

Short answer

The signup didn’t reach Jounce, usually because of the visitor’s connection, and their answers stay in the boxes. A form that isn’t live and an address Jounce won’t take each show their own message.

The message reads That didn’t send. Your answers are still here — try again. It means the page couldn’t hand the signup to Jounce.

Nothing the visitor typed was lost. Usually nothing reached your audience either. But a connection that drops at the very end can still get the signup through. So search your audience before you count it lost.

When Jounce knows the reason, the page says that instead. Those messages are below.

Note A page at your myjounce.com address keeps the words it had when it last updated. So an older page says That didn’t send. Your details are still here — try again.

To get the new wording, a Manager or an Admin with a verified email changes a word in the form and clicks away from it. See Editing a live form.

The connection dropped or timed out

The button waits a short while for an answer. On a slow or interrupted connection it gives up and shows the message. Pressing the button again sends the same answers. If the signup did get through the first time, it isn’t doubled.

The form was busy

A rush never turns a visitor away. A form’s limit is a set number of signups in ten minutes. Past it, Jounce keeps each signup, and the visitor sees your thank-you screen or redirect page. That holds for a huge rush, and for many signups from one connection, like an event’s shared Wi-Fi. See What happens when someone submits.

Jounce can switch that off for everyone while it fixes a problem. Then a rush past the limit shows This form is busy right now. Your answers are still here — try again in 10 minutes., and nothing was saved. The count starts fresh on the next ten-minute mark, so a visitor who waits and submits again usually gets through.

The form isn’t live

This form is closed — nothing was sent. means the form can’t take signups. It was unpublished or deleted, or the link points at a form that was never published. Trying again doesn’t help.

Open Forms and check the status label: Draft means it’s off. Open the form, select Share, and publish it again. Then the visitor can reload the page and submit. See Why does my form’s link say it isn’t available?.

A deleted form isn’t on the Forms page and can’t be published again. Create another form, then share its link or paste its code.

Jounce wouldn’t take the address

The page marks the email box and says That email address won’t work here — try a different one. under it. On an older page the box is still marked, but the sentence shows in the message strip at the bottom of the screen.

Usually the address is a temporary one. That’s the kind a throwaway-mail site hands out for a few hours. Jounce doesn’t accept those, so nothing was saved to your audience.

Some addresses pass the page’s own check, but Jounce can’t read them. Those get the same answer. Ask the visitor for an address they keep. See What happens when someone submits.

The page stopped it before sending

The page checks every box before it sends anything. This field is required. means a required box is empty. Check the email address — it doesn’t look complete. means the address isn’t shaped like one.

Nothing was sent. The visitor fixes the box and presses the button again.

If That didn’t send keeps coming back on a form that’s live, test it yourself from Share; see Test your form.
