The fields you can ask for
Short answer
A form can ask for nine things: email, first and last name, company, job title, industry, street address, phone and a consent checkbox. Email is always on, and each answer lands on the person’s page.
The list is fixed. Every form can ask for the same nine things. You choose which of them it asks for, what each one is called, and whether a visitor must fill it in. You can’t add a field of your own, such as a birthday.
The email field is always on, and a visitor must always fill it in. The other eight each have a switch under Elements in the settings panel.
| Switch | Where the answer goes |
|---|---|
| Name | The person’s first name |
| Surname | The person’s last name |
| Company | A custom field on the person’s page |
| Job title | A custom field on the person’s page |
| Industry | A custom field on the person’s page |
| Street address | A custom field on the person’s page |
| Phone | A custom field on the person’s page. A phone keypad on phones |
| Consent | A custom field on the person’s page, saved as Yes or No |
Consent adds a checkbox, not a box to type in. See The consent checkbox.
Where the answers land
Each submission makes or updates one subscriber. Open Audience and select the person.
Name and Surname fill First name and Last name when the person is new to your audience. Every other field sits with their custom fields. Its name there is the one Jounce saves it under: Company, Job-title, Industry, Street-address, Phone number, and Require-signup-confirmation for the checkbox. So Job title shows as Job-title.
If you make a field called Job Title on a subscriber’s page or while importing, it’s that same field. Pages then show it under the name you gave it. See Custom fields.
For someone already on your list, a form keeps what their page holds. It never changes their name or fills in a missing one. Any other field fills in only when it’s empty on their page. A different answer never replaces a saved one, and an empty box never clears it. See What happens when someone submits.
Renaming a field changes what the visitor reads, never where the answer is saved. A field labeled Your best email still saves as the email address.
Adding one
Turn a field’s switch on under Elements, and the field appears in the place its design gives it. See Add or remove a field.
