Why did my delay end at the wrong time?
Short answer
Wait until a time of day, a day of the week, or a date is read in UTC, not your local time. Wait for a set amount of time isn’t affected.
Nothing was skipped. The next step ran when the delay ended, and every step after it ran in order. The delay ended when it did because Jounce reads three kinds of wait in UTC.
UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is the world’s reference clock. It’s the same all year, with no daylight saving. Your local time sits some hours ahead of it or behind it.
- Wait until a time of day matches the time in UTC. A wait until 09:00 ends at 9:00 UTC, which is the middle of the night in some places.
- Wait until day(s) of the week switches days at midnight UTC. Someone who arrives late in your evening may already count as the next day.
- Wait until a specific date ends at 9:00 UTC on that date.
Wait for a set amount of time isn’t affected, because it counts from when each subscriber reaches the step.
To land at a local time, work out that time in UTC and enter it. Subtract the hours you are ahead of UTC, or add the hours you are behind. When what you want is a set gap between two emails, use Wait for a set amount of time instead. See The Time delay step.
