What a Zap can do with Jounce
Short answer
A Zap can hear from Jounce when someone joins, unsubscribes, or lands in a segment. It can also add or update a subscriber, move them in or out of a segment, unsubscribe them, or look one up by email.
A Zap is a rule you build on Zapier: when something happens in one app, do something in another. Jounce can be either end. Jounce tells the Zap what happened, or does what the Zap asks. You connect the two once; see Connect Jounce to Zapier.
When Jounce tells Zapier
These are the Zap’s triggers, named as Zapier shows them.
| Trigger | Fires when |
|---|---|
| Subscriber Created | Someone joins your audience from a form, by hand, or through another app |
| Subscriber Unsubscribed | A subscriber opts out |
| Subscriber Added to Segment | A subscriber lands in a segment. Pick one segment, or leave the field empty to hear about all |
Each trigger hands Zapier the person’s email, first name, last name, status, source, and the time it happened. The segment trigger adds the segment’s name. A CSV import doesn’t fire Subscriber Created, no matter how many people it adds. Opens, clicks, bounces, and complaints aren’t triggers. They stay in your Analytics. A developer can hear about bounces through Webhooks.
When Zapier tells Jounce
These are the Zap’s actions.
| Action | What Jounce does |
|---|---|
| Create or Update Subscriber | Adds the person, or updates their names, custom fields, and segments if they exist |
| Add Subscriber to Segment | Puts an existing subscriber in a segment |
| Remove Subscriber From Segment | Takes them out of one |
| Unsubscribe Subscriber | Opts them out, so Jounce never mails them again |
| Find Subscriber | Looks someone up by email, so a later step can use their details |
A Zap adds people under the same rules as adding them in Jounce. A throwaway address is refused. So is a subscriber’s old address, from before their email address was changed. If someone unsubscribed, bounced, or complained before, they keep that status. An update never changes a status.
A person a Zap adds shows API as their Source on their page. Adding someone to a segment can start an automation that watches it; see What a segment is.
What a Zap can’t do
The connection screen says it: It can’t send campaigns, delete contacts, or change your account settings. So a Zap won’t send a campaign, delete anyone, or touch your settings.
Two things can still lead to an email. If you turn on Send a confirmation email first, Jounce sends that email to a new person the Zap adds. And adding someone to a segment can start an automation that emails them.
