Sending domain statuses

Short answer

The Your own sending domain card shows one of four badges: Pending, Still checking, Not authenticated, or Authenticated. Only Authenticated changes where your emails come from.

A sending domain is either authenticated or it isn’t. The badge on the Your own sending domain card says which, and how the last check went. Until it reads Authenticated, your emails go out sent via Jounce. See The address your emails come from.

The four badges

Badge What it means
Pending You’ve added the domain and Jounce hasn’t confirmed the records yet. The records and the Verify button stay on the card.
Still checking Jounce asked for your records and didn’t get an answer this time. It tries again on its own. Nothing to do unless it lasts.
Not authenticated Jounce looked for the records for a while and never found them, or an authenticated domain’s records went away. The card keeps the records so you can fix them.
Authenticated The records are confirmed. Your emails come from hello@ at the domain, and the card says ⟨your domain⟩ is set up — nothing left to do here.

When Jounce checks

Jounce checks a pending domain on its own, over and over, until it is authenticated or Jounce gives up. Selecting Verify checks right away, and anyone in the workspace can do that.

Jounce checks an authenticated domain too. A check that gets no answer changes nothing, and the badge stays Authenticated. If its records disappear, the badge turns to Not authenticated and your emails go back to being sent through Jounce. Why did my emails go back to Sent via Jounce? covers that.
