Why is my subscriber count lower than my total?

Short answer

The number under the title counts the people Jounce can send to, those marked Subscribed. The total beside it counts everyone, including Unconfirmed, Unsubscribed, Bounced, and Complained.

Your list holds everyone. The number under the Subscribers heading counts the people your next email reaches. The total beside it counts everyone.

See where the rest are

Open the Status menu above the list. Each of the five statuses shows its count, and the four below Subscribed add up to the gap:

  • Unconfirmed — they haven’t clicked their confirmation link. You can send it again.
  • Unsubscribed — they opted out. Only they can rejoin.
  • Bounced — their mailbox rejected an email. A working address fixes it.
  • Complained — they marked an email as spam.

Subscriber statuses says what each one means and what changes it.

If the five counts don’t add up to your number

Then some people aren’t on this list at all. Three things to check:

  • Search for one of them by name or email. A deleted person doesn’t show or count. Adding them again brings them back.
  • Check the workspace. Each workspace has its own list. Select your avatar at the top right; the account menu names the one you’re in. See Switch workspaces.
  • Check the import. Jounce leaves out addresses it can’t send to, and an address on more than one row counts once. So a file of 400 rows can arrive as fewer people. The import’s summary says how many were added and how many it left out. It also offers Download the rejected rows. That list is gone once you close the import, so download it while it’s open.
