Why does no one match my filter?

Short answer

Usually one row is stricter than you meant, or the filter asks about opens and clicks your list hasn’t had yet. Your list is untouched; loosen a row or clear the filter.

Nobody has been removed. The dialog reads No one matches these filters yet. Or the list says No subscribers match, with a Clear filters button. Everyone comes back the moment you clear. Work down this list.

Check all against any

A group set to Matching all of these needs every row to be true of the same person. Some rows can’t both be true, such as Status is Bounced and Last clicked in the last 7 days. Together they match no one. Switch all to any, or remove a row. See How filters combine.

Check the status row

Every preset starts with Status is Subscribed. Are the people you expect Unconfirmed? Or are you looking for those who bounced? Then change or remove that row.

Give it time

Opens and clicks only exist after you have sent something. Gone quiet asks for 90 days without activity, and joining counts as activity. So a list younger than 90 days has no one to find. The dialog says so: A list younger than 90 days hasn’t had time to go quiet.

Check a Location row

Is in any of matches only people Jounce has located. A location arrives with a signup, a confirmation, or a click, so a list Jounce hasn’t finished locating finds fewer people than you expect.

The picker only offers places Jounce has found someone on your list in, and a place stays there even if nobody is in it now. See Where a subscriber’s location comes from.

Check the spelling of a data field

A Data field row needs the name of a field of your own, as it appears on a subscriber’s page. Capitals don’t matter, but the rest does, and Is exactly wants the whole value. Try Contains with part of it.

Say you type the name of a field Jounce keeps by itself, such as first name, into a row. That row finds only people with a field of your own by that name. Under the name, Jounce says That name belongs to a built-in field — pick another.

There’s no filter on a person’s name. The search box finds someone by name, and Email address finds people by their address.

Check the text in an email address row

Contains needs the text somewhere in the address. Ends with needs it at the end. gmail finds every Gmail address; @gmail with Starts with finds none.

Is the search box in use?

Typing in the search box pauses the filter and the line reads paused while you search. So you’re seeing a search with no results, not an empty filter. Clear the search.

If none of those is it, choose Clear in the line above the list. Build the filter again one row at a time, watching the count.
