Delete a custom field

Short answer

On any subscriber’s page, select the three dots above the field and choose Delete field. Only Admins and Managers see it, and it takes the field and every value in it off every subscriber for good.

When you’re done, the field and every value in it are gone from every subscriber’s page. To clear one person’s value instead, see Delete a custom field’s value.

  1. Open Audience and select a person’s name. Their page opens.
  2. Find the field in the card on the left and select the three dots above it, at the right of its label.
  3. Choose Delete field. A dialog asks Delete the “Company” field? and says what deleting costs.
  4. Select Delete field. Keep it closes the dialog and changes nothing.

The field leaves the page, and Jounce says “Company” field deleted. at the bottom right.

Careful Deleting a field can’t be undone. Every subscriber’s value in it is gone for good.

Who sees Delete field

Only Admins and Managers see Delete field. It never shows on Require-signup-confirmation, the field that records who ticked your form’s consent checkbox.

What the dialog tells you

Its first sentence says how many subscribers lose a value. With 1,240 of them, it reads It comes off every subscriber’s page, and the values 1,240 subscribers have in it are deleted for good.

It also names what still uses the field:

  • A live form that asks for it: Your form “Waitlist” still asks for it, so new sign-ups will add it back. To stop that, take the field off the form.
  • A live automation that checks it: Your automation “Welcome” checks this field, and will find it empty for everyone.

While Jounce clears the values

Jounce clears the values from every subscriber in the background. The field shows on no subscriber’s page meanwhile.

Until that’s done, you can’t add a field by that name. Add custom field and an import’s Create new field… both say That field is still being deleted. Add it again once that’s done under the name. The developer API refuses it too.

If it didn’t delete

The dialog stays open, and Jounce says why at the bottom right:

  • Jounce is still deleting five fields in this workspace. Try again once one finishes.
  • The field is off your list, but its values weren’t cleared. Choose Delete field again to finish.
  • Only workspace admins and managers can do this. Ask an Admin or a Manager.
  • For a field called Company, anything else reads Couldn’t delete the “Company” field. Nothing changed — try again.
