Why were some rows rejected?

Short answer

Jounce sets aside any address it can’t safely send to and takes everyone else in. Select Download the rejected rows to see each address and why.

A rejected row is an address Jounce can’t safely send to. Or it’s someone already on file, when you chose Skip them. Your other subscribers came in as normal. Nothing on your list was removed.

A row that repeats an email address isn’t rejected for that. Jounce reads all of that address’s rows as one subscriber and counts the extra rows on a line of their own. When the address itself is rejected, each of its rows is.

The summary names the reason when there’s one, or lists them when there are several. Download the rejected rows saves rejected-rows.csv, one line per rejected row, with its address and reason.

Note A long list imports in the background. Its email counts the rows rejected for each reason. There’s no file to download. Imports that finish in the background says how to see who was left out.

The reasons

Reason What it means What to do
invalid email The cell isn’t a working address: a missing @, a space, a slash (/), an empty cell. Fix it in your file and import it again. Whichever choice you pick on Match your columns, nobody is added twice.
shared inbox (info@, sales@) A team mailbox, not a person’s. Nobody personally asked to hear from you there. Leave it out. If a real person reads that inbox and signed up, add them by hand; this check runs only on imports.
test or fake domain A placeholder domain like example.com that can’t receive mail. Leave it out.
throwaway address A throwaway-mail service. The mailbox is gone within hours. Leave it out.
domain can’t receive mail The part after the @ has no mail server. Check the spelling of the domain. If it’s right, leave it out.
unsubscribed before They opted out of your emails earlier. Only they can come back, through one of your forms.
bounced an earlier email Their mailbox rejected an earlier email. Leave it out.
marked an earlier email as spam They marked an earlier email as spam. Leave it out.
already on your list They’re on your list, and you chose Skip them. Nothing. They’re there. To update them, import again with the other choice.
deleted from your list You deleted them earlier, and you chose Skip them. They stay deleted. Nothing, if you meant to delete them. To bring them back, import again with Update their details and keep their history.
replaced by a newer address Someone used it before their email address was changed. The mailbox may be closed, or someone else’s. Nothing. They’re on your list at their new address. If you deleted them, type this address into Add manually to see where to add them back.
still being erased Someone on your team erased this person’s personal data, and the erase hasn’t finished. Nothing. Jounce finishes it. After that, the address can be imported again as a new subscriber.

Jounce keeps those checks so the addresses you send to are real people who asked. A file full of dead or shared addresses gets your emails treated as spam, for everyone on the list.

Rows that couldn’t be saved

N couldn’t be saved — try importing those again is different. Those addresses passed every check, but the save didn’t finish.

Import the same file again with the same choice you made on Match your columns. Nobody is added twice.
