Get sending again after a pause

Short answer

If bounces or spam complaints caused the pause, stop their source first; then, whatever the cause, write to hello@jounce.com from the workspace owner’s sign-in address. A person at Jounce checks what you did and writes back; once sending resumes, scheduled emails more than a day late wait for your OK.

When you’re done, a person at Jounce checks what you did and writes back.

Note Steps 1 to 3 are for a pause caused by bounces and spam complaints, and the banner names the cause. If a person at Jounce set the pause, or your workspace started paused, there’s nothing to clean up: go straight to step 4. See Why is my sending paused?

The red banner at the top of the Emails page, reading Sending is paused, with its Review your audience link ringed.

  1. If bounces or spam complaints caused the pause, select Review your audience on the banner. The Audience page opens.
  2. Open the Status menu above the list (on a phone, it’s under Filters) and pick Bounced, then Complained. Each shows the addresses behind the pause, with a count beside the name.
  3. Open a few of them and look under Details for where they came from: CSV import, Signup form, Added manually, or API. See Where a subscriber came from. Then stop that source. See Stop the source.
  4. Whatever caused the pause, write to hello@jounce.com from the workspace owner’s sign-in address. If you aren’t the workspace owner, ask them to write. If you cleaned up your audience, say what you did and where the addresses came from.
  5. Wait for the reply. Once a person at Jounce resumes sending, the banner leaves and the held emails go out on their own. A scheduled email more than a day late by then waits for your OK instead. An A/B test’s winner round that late stays on hold.

After a pause for bounces or spam complaints, your list warms up again from the first daily limit, as a new workspace’s does. A held email bigger than the limit doesn’t go, and one that doesn’t fit yet waits for room.

Stop the source

Don’t import that file again. Turn on confirmation for a form that brings in bad addresses. Never add a bought or scraped list. See How double opt-in works.

Deleting the bounced and complained subscribers is up to you: Jounce already skips them. See Delete subscribers.

Note Only a person at Jounce resumes your sending. A pause never ends on its own. Sending warnings and pauses covers what else a pause touches.

Next step

While you wait for the reply, see What a pause holds and what keeps working for which emails go out when sending resumes.
