What the Emails tab counts
Short answer
The tab adds up every email you sent from the Emails page that went out inside the time range. Automation emails and test emails aren’t on this tab.
The tab adds up the sends in the range into one set of numbers. It is a total, not an average of the rows. A send to 1,000 people weighs ten times as much as a send to 100.
Which sends are here
- An email joins the tab once Jounce has finished sending it. The day the send finished is the date the time range checks.
- A scheduled email joins when it goes out. An email still sending isn’t counted until it finishes.
- An A/B test is one send. It joins the tab on the day its test goes out, while it waits to pick a winner, and keeps that date. It shows its first subject line. Its numbers include both test versions and, once it goes out, the winner’s send to everyone else. See The A/B test results.
- A send you canceled counts the mail that went out before it stopped.
- A send that failed or was canceled before it reached anyone never appears.
- Emails an automation sends are not here. They count on the Automations tab and on the automation’s own insights page. See The insights page.
- A test email you send to yourself is never counted anywhere.
How the rates are worked out
- Delivered is sent minus bounces. It can drop a little for a day or two after a send, as bounces come back.
- Open rate and Click rate are shares of delivered mail. Each person counts once, however many times they open or click.
- Bounces is a share of everything sent.
- Complaints and Unsubscribes on this tab are shares of delivered mail. An email’s own results page shows those two as counts instead, with no rate. See Why don’t Analytics rates match an email’s results page?
The counting rules for a single email are in How Jounce counts opens, clicks, and bounces.
